J. Dawson - Head Coach

Chaparral High School opened its doors for the 1972-73 school year and played its first season of varsity baseball in the spring of 1974 with Coach Jerry Dawson at the helm. He has occupied that position every spring since. Chaparral Baseball has enjoyed tremendous success over the years qualifying for post-season play 33 of the 34 years it has been eligible. Chaparral Baseball has won 23 region championships, finished in the "final four" 18 times, state runner up on four occasions and state champions eight times. Chaparral Baseball has had over 135 young men who have gone on to play at the college and/or professional levels.

Coach Dawson has been selected "Coach of the Year" nine times. He has also been selected national "Coach of the Year" three times. He served as an assistant coach on the USA Baseball Junior National team in 2004, which competed in the World Games in Chinese Taipei. He served as the Head Coach of the USA Baseball Junior National team in 2005, which won the silver medal in the Pan Am games in Mexico.

Coach Dawson taught Physical Education at Chaparral for 30+ years and served as the school's athletic director for 20+ years before retiring in 2004.

Ron Davini

Ron completed 34 years of coaching and teaching in the Tempe Union High School District in 2005. He was the head coach at Corona del Sol High School for 28 years and his team accumulated 410 wins, one state championship, one runner up and 14 of 27 years of qualifying for the state tournament.

Ron has also coached on the national and international levels with the USA Baseball Program. He coached in 3 gold metal games, winning 2 gold and 1 silver. Also appeared in one bronze game and won that medal for our country. He works as an advisor and tournament director for USA Baseball on different levels.

Ron is now the executive director of the National High School Baseball Coaches Association. He took over this position in January and has just completed a successful national clinic in St. Louis , MO.

Ron has been inducted into 3 Hall of Fames (National BCA hall of fame, ACA and AzBCA) and was selected in 1995 by Walt Disney Productions as one of the Top 60 Teachers in America.

M. Miller

Coach Miller grew up in Manitowoc, Wisconsin and attended Lincoln High School where he played baseball and basketball. His junior year his baseball team lost in the semi-finals of the state tournament. His basketball team was the undefeated state champion his senior year.

After high school Coach Miller attended Carroll College in Waukesha, Wisconsin where he played baseball for two years and was selected team captain both years. He then transferred to the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh and played baseball there. His senior year he was again selected captain of the team that lost in the semi-finals of the NAIA College World Series which was played at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.

In February of 1974, Coach Miller accepted a job in Chaparral High School’s English department and taught there until he retired in 1993. In 1975 he became the junior varsity baseball coach and in 1978 became a varsity assistant where he has served as the hitting coach. In 2000 Chaparral’s team batting average was .418, in 2004 .444, and in 2005 .424.

Coach Miller has been selected Teacher of the Year by both the high school and the Scottsdale Charos. He enjoyed his 600th win at Chaparral in 2005 and was selected District 7 Assistant Coach of the year in 2004. In January of 2009, Coach Miller was also selected to the second class of the Hall of Fame of the Wisconsin State League.
