This year’s senior baseball class might not go down as one of the best in Arizona, but there’s plenty of time left to prove the scouts wrong.

If a player doesn’t plan on going to college, a great high school season can help a senior improve his draft status.

"I think it’s a pretty solid group of college position players," said Ron Benham, who runs azdiamondreport.com., about Arizona’s senior class. "You have a couple of guys who have a chance of being fairly high draft picks. There’s an arm or two who might go in the top 10 rounds, but that’s about it. It’s not a good year for pitching, and it’s a fairly decent year for position players." The Republic compiled a list of the top players in the state who are preparing for the first games of the season on Wednesday.

James McDonald, Sr., INF, Chaparral (Arizona State)
Nathan Sherman, Sr., C, Chaparral (University of Arizona)
Konner Wade, Sr., P, Chaparral (University of Arizona)
