The high school baseball season kicks off on Wednesday without a legitimate favorite in each classification.

That should make the state title races interesting this year. There's talent throughout the state. Here's a look at some of the early season favorites:

Class 5A Division II
1. Scottsdale Desert Mountain. Taylor Lindsey isn’t the only star on this team.
2. Phoenix Pinnacle. Catcher T.C. Mark and his teammates are ready for region’s battles.
3. Scottsdale Chaparral. Has an edge in pitching.
4. Phoenix Horizon. Only three returning starters. Not a problem for this program.
5. Glendale Deer Valley. Might be the last team standing after the Desert Valley Region teams beat each other up.

Don’t forget: Peoria Centennial, Tolleson, Surprise Willow Canyon, Tucson Ironwood Ridge
